Law Enforcement Leaders Urged to Proceed Cautiously with AI Procurement

Police leaders at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference 2025 in Denver were cautioned to take a deliberate, informed approach to purchasing artificial intelligence technology. Panelists emphasised that while AI improves efficiency and effectiveness, it introduces risks related to transparency, bias and legal compliance. Texas DPS maintains an inventory of more than 50 AI-enabled tools, each evaluated against policy and risk frameworks. The session outlined practical toolkits including contract risk assessments, AI inventories, and architecture review boards for structured oversight.
