The Dutch House of Representatives voted on 24 April 2026 to urge the government to terminate its contract with Solvinity, the IT provider managing DigiD, the national digital identity system used by all Dutch citizens to access government services including healthcare, pension, and tax. The motion, supported by a parliamentary majority, was triggered by reports that Solvinity may be acquired by US-based multinational Kyndryl, raising concerns about data sovereignty and continuity of core digital public infrastructure. DigiD is the identity layer underpinning access to all Dutch government digital services. A US-based company controlling the platform would place the infrastructure supporting national identity verification, police databases and justice system access outside Dutch and EU sovereign control. The case is the most direct European parliamentary challenge to date to US hyperscaler control of national identity infrastructure, and directly relevant to LE systems relying on DigiD for authentication.
