Washington State enacts first statewide ALPR use restrictions

Washington State SB 6002, effective 30 March 2026, introduces the state’s first legal restrictions on ALPR data access and use. The law limits comparisons to specific databases, prohibits inter-agency data sharing except where a judicial proceeding requires it, and mandates system registration with the Attorney General within 180 days. Agencies have until September 2026 to register, and must adopt a use policy by December 2027.
