The UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology has published an updated briefing noting that live facial recognition is now in use by 13 of the 43 police forces in England and Wales as of March 2026, with a national rollout planned. A government consultation on a new legal framework closed in February 2026. The Home Office has committed £115 million over three years to accelerate AI and automation adoption in policing, including creation of Police.AI.
