UK LFR deployments expand: Norfolk scans 50,000 faces; Merseyside records first arrests; South Korea extends biometric SIM pilot

Norfolk Constabulary completed its first live facial recognition deployment in Norwich, scanning approximately 50,000 faces over two days and generating multiple positive watchlist matches. Merseyside Police reported its first arrests arising from LFR during a deployment in Birkenhead. Separately, the South Korean government extended its facial recognition pilot for SIM card registration through June 2026, allowing further technical and policy evaluation before a potential national mandate requiring biometric liveness checks for mobile subscriptions.
