The UK Home Office is deploying 10 live facial recognition vans to police forces in Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Bedfordshire, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley and Hampshire to target high-harm criminals. The technology will be used according to strict rules and College of Policing guidance, with independent testing by the National Physical Laboratory finding no bias for ethnicity, age or gender. The government will simultaneously consult on appropriate safeguards and oversight.
