In the early hours of 7 May 2026, after months of negotiation and a first trilogue that collapsed on 28 April, the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional agreement on the Digital Omnibus on AI. The deal was announced jointly by the co-legislators and confirmed in press releases of the European Parliament and the Council. The deal still needs formal adoption, but both institutions have indicated they intended to do so before 2 August 2026, the date on which the bulk of the AI Act’s high-risk obligations would otherwise become applicable.
