The Metropolitan Police released results from the UK’s first permanent live facial recognition pilot in Croydon. Static cameras on lamp-posts ran 24 operations October 2025 to March 2026 producing 173 arrests at one every 35 minutes. Crime in the area fell 10.5% year on year with violence against women and girls offences down 21%. Cameras scanned 470,000 people and recorded one false alert with no wrongful arrest. The government has pledged 40 new LFR vans as part of a national programme.
