Mobile facial recognition technology is expanding among law enforcement agencies in the US and UK. The DHS Mobile Fortify system compares face biometrics in captured images against over 200 million images from State Department, CBP, FBI and state databases. South Wales Police and Gwent Police won a UK national policing award from the National Police Chiefs’ Council for their operator-initiated facial recognition app powered by NEC algorithms. The forces highlighted their apprehension of a person wanted under a European arrest warrant for 12 years based on a match against a 13-year-old photo.
