European Commission to table EUCCS legislation in Q3 2026: unified broadband communications for police and emergency services across Schengen

The European Commission confirmed that a legislative proposal to establish the European Critical Communications System (EUCCS) will be tabled in Q3 2026 under the Commission Work Programme 2026. EUCCS will integrate interoperable broadband communications for police, fire services and emergency medical responders across all EU and Schengen area member states, enabling cross-border coordination and operational mobility. The initiative builds on €35 million of EU-funded preparatory work since 2015, including the ISF-funded EUCCS Preparation Project now in deployment across eight member states via four consortia. Legislative basis will be Article 87 TFEU.
