The EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which digitally records biometric entry and exit data β four fingerprints and a facial image β for non-EU nationals across 29 Schengen countries, becomes fully operational on 10 April 2026. Implementation began on 12 October 2025 and has already registered over 300,000 movements. Europol highlights the system’s relevance to cross-border criminal intelligence, noting its integration into the EU’s interoperability architecture for large-scale IT systems. The EU’s Electronic Travel Authorisation system ETIAS is scheduled for implementation in Q4 2026.
