Cellebrite AI Offers Near-Real-Time Evidence Analysis but Experts Warn of Courtroom Risks

Computer Weekly reports that Cellebrite has demonstrated Guardian Investigate linking cell site data, Google Maps location records, social media posts and call records in near real time as evidence is uploaded, enabling investigators to track movements and map relationships without waiting for laboratory reports. Peter Sommer, a leading forensic expert, warned that AI results in forensic science must always be traced back to original data before being relied upon in court: AI systems can hallucinate and models trained on conviction data may not recognise cases where charges should not be brought.
