A coalition of 16 US law enforcement and corrections groups has written to Congress requesting that state and local agencies be granted counter-drone authority. Currently only federal agencies within the Departments of Defense Homeland Security and Justice possess authority to interfere with drone flights under restrictive circumstances. The coalition advocates for non-kinetic electronic countermeasures to disrupt command and control links rather than kinetic measures. Federal laws restricting counter-drone capabilities are seen as inadequate given the proliferation of drones and their increased payload capabilities.
