Law Enforcement Learns Ethical AI Use Through Northeastern University Toolkit

Thousands of police officers globally have undergone training using the Responsible AI Toolkit developed by Northeastern University’s Cansu Canca in collaboration with the United Nations and Interpol. The toolkit, one of the first comprehensive training programmes for police focused exclusively on AI, addresses sector-specific ethical issues including historical bias in policing data. Training emphasises understanding where AI tools might fail and ensuring agencies can keep data safe, ensure adequate privacy levels, and check for bias before deployment. The UN and Interpol plan executive-level training rollout in five countries across three continents.
