The UK Home Office announced in August 2025 the rollout of 10 new Live Facial Recognition vans to seven police forces: Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Bedfordshire, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley and Hampshire. The technology will be deployed according to strict rules with specific intelligence requirements. Forces already using LFR reported 580 arrests in 12 months for offences including rape, domestic abuse, knife crime and robbery. The government will simultaneously consult on appropriate safeguards and oversight frameworks.
